BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- One Hundred Thirty-Five Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with selection to the league’s Spring 2014 All-Academic Team that was released by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. – Sophomore Brooke Pacheco (Bristol, R.I.) and junior David Elofson (Mansfield, Mass.) earned All-NEISDA honors during day one of the 2014 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Division II/III Championships held at the University of Rhode Island on Friday.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – At the diving portion of the Bridgewater State University “Last Gasp” Open Invitational, three student-athletes qualified for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Division II/III Championships.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Junior Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) eclipsed her own school mark in the 200 breaststroke to lead the Bridgewater State University swimming & diving teams against Division II Bentley University on Tuesday evening at the Moriarty Pool.
Visiting Bentley swept the meet as the Falcons recorded a 213.5-84 victory on the men's side and a 154-128 win on the women's side.
Rechtiene posted a time of 2:34.20 to place first in the 200 breaststroke as she bettered her previous standard of 2:35.07 set in 2012. Rechtiene also swam a leg on a pair of winning relay squads, the 200 medley relay (2:01.37) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.26).
Joining Rechtiene on the 200 medley relay were seniors Ashley Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) and Nelia Borden (Westport, Mass.) and freshman Sarah Biltcliffe (Fall River, Mass.). Rechtiene, Borden, senior Ariel Gillis (Blackstone, Mass.) and junior Kendra Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) swam the 200 freestyle relay.
Rechtiene also placed second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.19. Also adding second-place showings for the Bears were Dunican in the 100 backstroke (1:06.78), Biltcliffe in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.31) and 200 breaststroke (2:42.85), Borden in the 50 freestyle (27.77), senior Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:47.30) and sophomore Kerry Davis (Haverhill, Mass.) in the 200 butterfly (2:51.86).
Freshman diver Mary Woodbury (Holden, Mass.) qualified for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Division Association (NEISDA) Division II/III Championships on the one-meter board as she posted a score of 184.0 points. Woodbury finished third in the event. Sophomore Brooke Pacheco (Bristol, R.I.) tallied a personal-best score of 185.50 points on the three-meter board.
BSU junior David Elofson (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded a personal best score of 202.90 points on the three-meter board as he finished second in the scoring.
Senior Erick DalMolin (Springfield, Mass.) recorded a time of 1:04.31 in the 100 individual medley to finish with the second best time in the event.
“This is by far the best meet I've ever coached here at Bridgewater State," noted BSU Head Coach Mike Caruso. “The kids were great and we had so much fun tonight."
"Words cannot express how proud I am of these athletes and coaches," Caruso added. "It was a great way to send the seniors off."
Prior to the meet, the Bears honored 11 seniors who were competing in their final home dual meet. The 11 honored seniors included Borden, Dunican, Gillis, Nolan, Mary Fernandes (Fall River, Mass.), Gina Poliseno (Brockton, Mass.), Bridget Ryan (Westford, Mass.) and Mary Sommer (Verona, Wisc.) as well as DalMolin, Andrew Green (Middleboro, Mass.) and Charles MacDonald (Braintree, Mass.).
Both BSU teams will be back in the pool on Saturday as the Bears travel to Regis College for a one o’clock meet with the Pride.

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men’s swimming and diving team dropped a 146-82 decision to Elms College on Wednesday at the Partyka Natatorium.
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University swimming and diving teams hosted a dual meet against Gordon College on Tuesday night at the Moriarty Pool.
The visiting Fighting Scots posted a 151.5-119.5 win on the women’s side and a 166-109 decision on the men’s to sweep the meet.
The BSU women’s team placed first in four events as the Bears received individual victories from senior Ashley Dunican (Bennington, Vt.), sophomores Michaela Pereira (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Brooke Pacheco (Bristol, R.I.) and junior Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.).
Dunican posted a first place finish in the 50 backstroke (31.67), while Pereira took top honors in the 50 freestyle (27.62) and Pacheco won the one-meter diving competition (179.65 pts). Rechtiene touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley with a personal-best time of 2:24.78.
On the men’s side, junior John Holmes (Norwood, Mass.) placed first in the 50 freestyle (23.73) and swam a leg on the Bears’ winning 200 freestyle relay (1:36.90).
BSU junior David Elofson (Mansfield, Mass.) notched first-place points on both the one-meter and three-meter diving boards. Elofson recorded a score of 177.30 points on the one-meter board and 172.80 points on the three-meter.
In upcoming action, the BSU women’s squad will compete at the Little East Conference Championships on Saturday hosted by UMass Dartmouth. The men’s team is off until January 8th when the Bears travel to Elms College to take on the Blazers.
