74 BSU Fall Student-Athletes Earn MASCAC All-Academic Honors

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Seventy-Four Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been honored by the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with selection to the league’s Fall 2010 All-Academic Team that was released by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the eight MASCAC institutions during the course of the recently completed Fall 2010 academic semester, and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester, are eligible for selection to the Fall All-Academic Team.

The conference changed its format for announcing its All-Academic Team prior to the 2009-2010 academic year, as the MASCAC honors student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom on three occasions during the course of the academic year in the fall, winter and spring.

"The emphasis in our department will always be on the 'student' part of student-athlete," noted Bridgewater State Director of Athletics, John Harper, "and I am proud that we have coaches who also subscribe to that philosophy."

"I am indebted to all of our coaches and administrators who share that vision and focus for our student-athletes," Harper added.

Westfield State University placed the most student-athletes on the Fall 2010 MASCAC All-Academic Team with 88, while Bridgewater State, Worcester State University (66), Fitchburg State University (54) and Massachusetts Maritime Academy (54) followed.

Entering its 39th year of existence, the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions:  Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.
