Jim Simoneau

Coach Simoneau is entering his fifth season as the head coach of the cross country programs.  He is, however, no stranger to Bridgewater State College as he had been an assistant on the BSC cross country and track coaching staffs for four seasons beginning in 2001.  He previously coached at La Salle Academy in Providence, Rhode Island for five seasons from 1989 to 1993.

Jim attended the University of Rhode Island for two years before transferring to Rhode Island College in 1985 where he earned a bachelors degree in Marketing. During his sophomore year at URI, he competed in cross country and track at the varsity level. Jim also just recently received his M.B.A. from Providence College in 2004.

Under his guidance in 2005, sophomore Avery Bouchard advanced to the NCAA Division III Championships and finished 69th overall in a field of the nation's top 215 Division III harriers. Last season, Nicole Mauro advanced to the women's national championship meet and finished in 135th place.

Coach Simoneau currently resides in Coventry, Rhode Island, with his wife, Robyn, and children, Rachel and Matthew. He is a controller at Coastal Recycling Inc. in Providence, Rhode Island.




Thomas Smith

Coach Smith is entering his third season as the Bears's head track and field coach as well as the assistant cross country coach.  He will be skippering both the men's and women's indoor and outdoor programs.   

Smith is a 2006 graduate of Stonehill College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.  At Stonehill, he was a four-time Northeast-10 All-Conference selection in both cross country and track as well as a three-time all-region selection in cross country. Smith currently holds the Chieftains' outdoor track record in the 10,000 meter run (31:04.77).

Presently a history teacher at Middleboro High School, Smith was an assistant coach for both cross country and track at Stonehill following his graduation.  He instructed three All-American athletes during the 2006-2007 academic year.
