Women's Cross Country Competes at New England Regionals

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Cross Country Championships hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday at Stanley Park.

The Bears placed 36th overall in the team standings.

Junior Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) was the Bears top harrier at the meet as she covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 23:057.61 to finish 140th overall. Sophomore Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass) recorded a time of 24:32.62 (186th place), while freshman Jenise Madden (Taunton, Mass.) crossed the line in 24:38.27 (193rd place) to round out BSU's top three runners.

Junior Brittany Bowman of Tufts University won the individual championship with a time of 21:14.29.

MIT captured the team title while Williams College, Tufts, Middlebury College, Bates College and Brandeis University rounded out the top six. MIT and Williams automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship.

Tufts, Middlebury, Bates and Brandeis are among those that will be competing for at large bids to the NCAA Division III Championships. In total, 16 teams nationwide will qualify at the discretion of the USTFCCCA selection committee. Each region is limited to a maximum of six teams.
