Madden Leads Women's Cross Country at MASCAC Championships

LEOMINSTER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's cross country team placed third at the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Cross Country Championships held on Saturday at Doyle Community Park in Leominster.

BSU freshman Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) garnered MASCAC Rookie of the Year and All-Conference honors as she placed fourth overall. Madden covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 19:40 as she was the top rookie harrier at the meet.

Junior Kristyn Grattan (Mass.) was next across the line for Bridgewater State as she placed seventh with a time of 20:09. Sophomore Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top ten runners as she posted a time of 20:13 to finish eighth overall.

Grattan and Guyon also earned All-MASCAC accolades.

Westfield State University (24 pts.) captured the team title followed by Worcester State University (57 pts.) and Bridgewater State (63 pts.) in the final team standings.

Junior Jessie Cardin (Sutton, Mass.) of Westfield State won the individual title with a time of 17:55.

Following a week off, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the New England Division III Championships hosted by Westfield State University at Stanley Park.
