Madden Leads Women's Cross Country at James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Freshman Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) placed 22nd out of a field of 459 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday at Stanley Park.

The Bears placed 16th overall in the team standings. The University of New England captured the team title followed by Tufts University in second place and Keene State College in third.

Madden covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 23:14.83.  Jess Cardin of host Westfield checked in with the winning time of 21:26.81.

Junior Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) was the next Bear to cross the line. Grattan posted a time of 24:22.73 to finish 75th overall. Senior Theresa Connolly (North Andover, Mass.) capped off BSU's top three runners with a time of 24:55.90. Connolly placed 108th.

Next weekend, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the Conn. College Invitational held at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Connecticut.
