Women's Cross Country Places Ninth at Codfish Bowl

DORCHESTER, Mass. – Freshman Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) placed 19th out of a field of 204 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team at the 48th Annual Codfish Bowl held at Franklin Park.

Madden covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 20:02. Samantha Valentine of Phillips Andover won the meet with a time of 18:26.

Junior Kristyn Grattan (Hanover, Mass.) was next across the line for the Bears as she placed 44th overall with a time of 20:49. Grattan was followed by senior Theresa Connolly (North Andover, Mass.) in 62nd place (21:15). Sophomore Emily Guyon (Hopedale, Mass.) and senior Sydney Quirk (Plymouth, Mass.) rounded out Bridgewater's top five runners in 84th (21:57) and 103rd place (22:34), respectively.

The Bears placed ninth in the team standings.

After a week off, the Bears will compete at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University on Saturday, October 8th.
