BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Shauntel Farland has been selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week. 

Making her collegiate debut, Farland placed fourth out of a field of 109 harriers to help lead the Bears to a second place finish at the season-opening Roger Williams Invitational.  The Burlington, Massachusetts product covered the five-kilometer Colt State Park course in a time of 20:59.69.

Earlier this week, Farland was named both the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Cross Country Runner and Rookie of the Week.

After a weekend off, the Bears will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 20th.
