Farland Leads Women's Cross Country at Tri-State Invitational

LINCOLN, R.I. -- Freshman Shauntel Farland (Burlington, Mass.) continued her strong rookie campaign  as she led the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team to a third place finish at the Tri-State Invitational hosted by CCRI-Lincoln on Saturday.

Farland finished second out of a field of 72 runners as she covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 20:05.30.

Juniors Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.), Emily Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Rachel Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) were the next three Bears across the finish line. Poto placed 13th overall with a time of 21:21.21, while Emily Ducharme and Rachel Ducharme finished 19th (21:37.40) and 20th (21:39.44), respectively.

Sophomore Erin Doyle (Seekonk, Mass.) rounded out BSU's top five harriers as she was the 28th runner to complete the course recording a time of 22:08.78.

Salve Regina University placed first in the team standings followed by Eastern Connecticut State University and Bridgewater State.

Next Saturday, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University.
