Farland Leads Women's Cross Country at UMD Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Freshman Shauntel Farland (Burlington, Mass.) placed 45th to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.

The Bears placed 15th overall in the team standings.  East Stroudsburg captured the team title followed by SUNY-New Paltz in second place and Connecticut College in third.

Farland covered the five-kilometer layout in a time of 19:28.77.  Allison Decker of East Stroudsburg checked in with the winning time of 17:50.09.

BSU grad student Jacey Peers (Elmsford, N.Y.) was the next Bears to cross the line. Peers posted a time of 19:44.41 to finish 69th overall.  Senior captain Krysta Zbikowski (Ashburnham, Mass.) capped off BSU's top three runners with a time of 20:19.50.  Zbikowski placed 98th.

Next weekend, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the Codfish Bowl Invitational hosted by UMass Boston.
