Danielle Poto Named MASCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --For the second straight week and fifth times this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore Danielle Poto has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Poto paced the Bears with a 21st place showing at the James Earley Invitational held at Stanley Park in Westfield on Saturday as she completed the five-kilometer course in a time of 19:53.24.  The North Andover, Massachusetts native helped the Bears place tenth out of 38 schools in the team standings at the meet.

Previously this season, Poto earned MASCAC Runner of the Week honors for each of the first three weekends of the 2013 campaign with a season-best time of 19:45 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on September 21st.  She also captured the individual title at a tri-meet hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University on September 14th.

Last week, Poto was named the conference runner of the week after placing fourth out of a field of 62 runners at the Tri-State Invitational in Lincoln, Rhode Island.

During her rookie campaign of 2012, Poto garnered all-conference honors as she placed seventh at the MASCAC Championships.  She also earned All-New England Alliance honors with a 14th place showing at the New England Alliance Championships.

The cross country schedule resumes for Poto and her teammates this Saturday as the Bears will compete at the Connecticut College Invitational held at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Connecticut.
