Sarah Lagasse Named to Academic All-District One First Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior Sarah Lagasse has been voted as a first team selection on the 2010-2011 Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District One College Division Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Team.

The selections were made by District One voters from the College Division which is comprised of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA programs located in New England, New York and Eastern Canada. As a result of her first team designation, Lagasse will advance to the All-America ballot. 

Lagasse, who hails from Rehoboth, Massachusetts, is a three-sport athlete at BSU competing in cross country as well as both indoor and outdoor track and field.  She earned All-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic (MASCAC) honors with a second place showing at the MASCAC Cross Country Championships this past fall.

During the winter indoor track season, Lagasse captured MASCAC individual titles in the 800-meter run, the mile and the 4 x 800-meter relay.  She also set BSU indoor records in the 1,000-meter run (3:03.25), 4 x 400 relay (4:01.31), 4 x 800 relay (9:42.75) and distance medley relay (12:58.24).

Lagasse garnered All-New England honors in the 4 x 800 relay with a seventh place finish at the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the spring, and was the MASCAC champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as well as the 400-meter hurdles.

A two-time MASCAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, Lagasse set BSU outdoor records in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:49.86) and the 4 x 800-meter relay (9:43.27).

Academically, Lagasse is currently sporting an impressive 3.94 grade point average while majoring in Physical Education (Teachers Licensure).  She has earned Academic All-MASCAC status in each of the last six sports seasons since arriving at Bridgewater State in the fall of 2009.

Lagasse's memberships include the Massachusetts Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (MAHPERD), American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), the Bridgewater State Physical Education Club and BSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
