Wrestling Competes at NEWA Futures Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Several members of the Bridgewater State University wrestling team competed at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament hosted on Sunday by Johnson & Wales University.

The Bears placed 12th in the team standings with 17.5 points.

Freshman Jeremias Collazo (Haverhill, Mass.) went 2-2 out of the 184-pound weight class. After dropping his opening bout, Collazo posted a 14-2 major decision over teammate Christian Beer and then pinned (3:52) Colton DeLeo of Southern Maine.  He ended the tournament with a tough 5-3 setback to Ty Saeturn of Norwich University.

Freshman Stuart Glover (North Reading, Mass.) went 2-1 competing out of the 141-pound weight class. Glover was pinned in his opening bout but bounced back with a 7-0 win over Logan Montaina of New England College followed by a 13-6 decision over Western New England's Luke Plano. Glover did not compete in his final bout of the day due to injury.

Senior 125-pounder Anthony Farrell (Raynham, Mass.), senior 149-pounder Derick Guerrero (Chicopee, Mass.) and freshman heavyweight Orcun Pekacar (Dedham, Mass.) each went 1-2 out of their respective weight classes.

Ten members of the BSU wrestling team will compete at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Tournament hosted next Saturday and Sunday by Springfield College.
