Henry Oberlander Named to NWCA Scholar All-American Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior 197-pounder Henry Oberlander has earned a spot on the 2019-2020 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar All-American Team.

Oberlander, who hails from Mansfield, Massachusetts, posted a record of 27-11 (.711) with five pins and 66 takedowns this past season to go along with 34 near fall points and 38 escapes. He placed seventh in the 197-pound weight class to earn All-New England honors at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championships earlier this month.

In three seasons with the Bears, Oberlander recorded an overall record of 61-42 (.592) with 15 career pins, 148 takedowns, 54 near fall points and 109 escapes.

In the classroom, Henry currently sports a cumulative 3.309 grade point average. He is slated to graduate following the 2020 spring semester with a degree in psychology.

To earn NWCA Scholar All-American honors, nominees must have at least a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the previous full academic year. Transfers and freshmen are eligible if they've been in residence at their current institution beginning in the fall of 2019. On the competition side, wrestlers must be a national qualifier in 2019-20 and have a minimum win percentage of at least .500. Additionally, wrestlers can be considered if they placed in the top six at their respective regional tournament, a win percentage of .500 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled competition in NCAA championship events. A wrestler can also be considered if they have a win percentage of .667 or better and competed in half of the institution's scheduled NCAA events. 

Oberlander also earned NWCA Division III Scholar All-American honors for the 2017-2018 season.
