Wrestling Splits Tri-Meet on Senior Day

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team spilt a tri-match with Williams College and Plymouth State University on Senior Day at Kelly Gymnasium.

The Bears (4-6) dropped a 22-21 decision to Williams before posting a 41-10 victory over Plymouth State.

The setback to Williams came down to a tie-breaker with the Ephs picking up the win due to the second criteria, most falls.

Senior 197-pounder Henry Oberlander (Mansfield, Mass.), junior 165-pounder Fox Maxwell (Winchester, Mass.), sophomore heavyweight Ryan Higgins (Billerica, Mass.) and sophomore 184-pounder Edwin Morales (Philadelphia, Pa.) each went 2-0 on the day for the Bears.

Oberlander, who was honored between bouts, earned a 3-1 decision against Olamide Adyeri of Williams and a 6-2 decision over Plymouth State's Noah Gifford. Oberlander is now 20-7 (.741) on the season.

Maxwell recorded a tough 6-5 decision over Nick Anselmi of Williams and then cruised to an 18-0 (2:44) technical fall victory against Colby Ferretti of Plymouth State. Maxwell improves to 24-13 (.649) on the year as he leads the Bears in wins.

Higgins posted an 8-0 major decision win against Williams' Dylan Millson and pinned Plymouth State's Nick Fortunata in 1:36. Higgins is now 23-4 (.852) on the 2019-2020 campaign with a team-leading 13 pins.

Morales breezed to a 20-3 (5:52) technical fall victory over William Smith of Williams and earned a win by forfeit in the match with Plymouth State. Morales improves to 22-2 (.917) in his first season in a BSU uniform.

Sophomore 133-pounder Wilson Gomes (Fogo, Cape Verde) tied the match against Williams with a dramatic second period (3:43) win by fall in the final bout.

The Bears are off until next Saturday when they travel to Coast Guard Academy for a quad.
