Wrestling Posts 1-2 Mark at NEWA-Metro Duals

EWING, N.J. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team went 1-2 at the NEWA-Metro Duals hosted by The College of New Jersey on Saturday.

The Bears (3-11) posted a 35-14 victory over Hunter College in their opening match before dropping a close 22-21 decision to host TCNJ. Bridgewater ended the day with a 37-9 setback to 19th ranked Centenary University.

Six different BSU grapplers recorded two wins on the day.

Freshman Jason Sulinski (Dedham, Mass.) went 2-0 out of the 133-pound weight class with a pair of forfeit victories, while sophomore Andrew Valdina (Dracut, Mass.), freshman Logan Larsen (Chanhassen, Minn.), junior Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.), freshman Henry Oberlander (Mansfield, Mass.) and senior Stephen Heaslip (Dedham, Mass.) all went 2-1 at 125, 141, 157, 184 and 197, respectively.

Valdina recorded a pair of decisions including a 15-6 major over Hamad Anir of Hunter, while Larsen pinned Max Nauta of Centenary and notched a 15-4 major decision against the Hawks' Elliot Natanov.

Kerr posted a 5-1 decision over William Heine of Hunter and notched a 3-2 decision over Mark Gerstacker in the setback to TCNJ.

Oberlander pinned Hunter's Maksimilian Garkusha and recorded a 6-1 decision over TCNJ's Sean Tonry. while Heaslip notched a 9-5 victory over the Lions' Pat Schinder and picked up a forfeit win against the Hawks.

In upcoming action, the Bears will host a quad meet with Coast Guard, WPI and NYU next Saturday.
