Wrestling Places 15th at NEWA Duals

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team went 1-3 and placed 15th at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Championships hosted by Johnson & Wales University on Sunday.

The Bears (2-9) opened the meet with a 40-12 setback to #2 seed and nationally ranked Roger Williams University. Following a 35-6 loss to Castleton University and a a 26-9 setback to Trinity College, Bridgewater recorded a 39-7 win over New England College in their final match of the day.

Junior 157-pounder Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) earned All-Tournament honors for the Bears. Kerr went 2-0 with a 5-3 victory over Castleton's James Kilgo and a 2-1 decision over Trinity's John Reilly.

Sophomore heavyweight Tom Arseneault (Lynnfield, Mass.), sophomore 197-pounder Chinaka Ekechukwu (Norwood, Mass.) and sophomore 165-pounder Declan Heaslip (Dedham, Mass.) also won two bouts apiece for the Bears.

Arseneault went 2-0 with a 3-2 decision over Mason Osborn of Castleton and a 2-1 triumph over Matthew Ferraro of Trinity. Ekechukwu finished 2-1 with an 8-2 decision over Ryan Riecke of Roger Williams and a win by fall (1:04) against Charlie Levine of New England College. Heaslip also posted a 2-0 mark as he recorded a 6-2 victory over Jason Bowen of Roger Williams, and edged Trinity's Nolan Cornu, 7-5.

On Saturday, the Bears will compete at the NEWA-Metro Duals hosted by The College of New Jersey.
