Cote Leads Wrestling at Scott Viera Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. – Senior Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) placed third in the 165-pound weight class to lead the Bridgewater State University wrestling team at the Scott Viera Invitational hosted by Roger Williams University on Saturday.

Cote went 5-1 at the tournament. He pinned each of his first three opponents before dropping a 4-0 decision to Brett Leonard of host Roger Williams in the championship semifinals. Cote bounced back with an 11-2 major decision victory over Clayton Cobe of Johnson & Wales University in the consolation semifinals before pinning Christopher Behen of JWU in overtime in the third place match.

Cote is now 22-6 (.786) on the season with six pins. The 22 wins and six pins are both career highs.

The Bears finished ninth in the team standings with 25 points.

Sophomore Declan Heaslip (Dedham, Mass.) was the only other BSU grappler with multiple wins as he went 2-2 also out of the 165-pound weight class. Heaslip recorded a 15-0 technical fall win over Grant Hill of Wesleyan University and added a 9-5 decision over Wesleyan's Aaron Cranston.

The Bears are off until next Saturday when they compete at the Jim Aguiar Invitational hosted by Plymouth State University.
