Cote Leads Wrestling at Pilgrim League Quad

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) went 3-0 to lead the Bridgewater State University wrestling team at a Pilgrim Wrestling League (PWL) quad meet held on Sunday afternoon at the Tinsley Center.

The Bears went 0-3 at the meet with a 45-3 loss to #5 ranked Roger Williams University, a 39-9 setback to Western New England University, and a 44-6 loss to the University of Southern Maine.

Cote edged Brett Leonard of Roger Williams in overtime, 9-7, at the 165-pound weight class. He also moved up to 174 to record a 6-4 decision over Josh Nelson of Western New England, and won by injury default at 165 against Zach Thompson of Southern Maine.

Cote, who is now 17-5 (.773) on the season, accounted for 12 of the Bears' 18 team points on the afternoon.

Junior Matt Jiampetti (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) posted a 12-8 decision out of the 157-pound weight class against Western New England, while junior Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) recorded a 5-0 win at 165 versus the Golden Bears.

The Bears (1-6, 0-4 PWL) are off until Saturday, January 7th when they travel to Roger Williams for the Scott Viera Invitational.
