Wrestling Competes at Messiah Petrofes Invitational

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team was in action during day one of the prestigious Messiah Petrofes Invitational on Friday.

Senior Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) and freshman Henry Oberlander (Mansfield, Mass.) were the only two BSU grapplers to advance to Saturday.

Cote went 2-0 competing out of the 165-pound bracket with a 9-7 overtime victory over Justin Morel of Wilkes and a first period (1:55) pin of Muhlenberg's Jimmy Fratantoni. Cote, who improved to 12-4 on the season, will take on Larry Cannon of host Messiah in the semifinals on Saturday. Cannon is ranked fourth nationally in the most recent Division III 165-pound rankings.

Oberlander bounced back from an opening round setback (tech. fall) at 184 to record an 8-3 decision over Will Van Hoose of West Virginia Tech followed by a pin (6:26) of Muhlenberg's Lorenzo Gisonda. Oberlander will take on Antony Risley of Mount Union in the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday.

The Bears are in 12th place in the team standings with 27.5 points after day one. Host Messiah leads all teams with 122 points.
