Wrestling Falls to #6 Johnson & Wales, 47-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The #6 ranked Johnson & Wales University wrestling team posted a 47-3 victory over Bridgewater State University on Wednesday night at the Wildcat Center.

The match marked the first dual meet of the season for the host Wildcats (1-0). The Bears fall to 1-3 with the setback.

After junior Bobby Jordan (Nutley, N.J.) received a forfeit at the 125-pound weight class, the Wildcats got three-straight pins from tenth-ranked Jay Albis (Fishkill, N.Y.) at 133 pounds, junior DJ Tirelli (Oradell, N.J.) at 141 (in 36 seconds) and junior Jamiel Stapleton (Malone, N.Y.) at 149.

Bridgewater State got on the board at the 157-pound weight class when junior Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) edged JWU junior Daniel McBrinn (Ramsey, N.J.), 3-1. The win marked Kerr's ninth of the season.

Freshman Dale White (Fishkill, N.Y.) moved up a weight class to post an 11-7 decision at 165, while eighth-ranked Stephen Jarrell (East Greenwich, R.I.) recorded a 30-15 technical fall victory at 174.

Senior Pete Hailer (East Milton, Mass.) was an 11-7 winner at 184 pounds. JWU ended the match with a 28-13 technical fall win by sophomore Khamri Thomas (Windsor Locks, Conn.) at 197 pounds and a pin at heavyweight by senior Jonah Aurelio (Riverside, R.I.).

The Wildcats are on the road this weekend when they travel to the Spartan Invitational hosted by York College. The Bears compete in the Messiah Petrofes Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
