Cote Leads Wrestling at Doug Parker Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Senior captain Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) placed third in the 165-pound weight class to lead the Bridgewater State University wrestling team at the Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.

Cote won five of six bouts on the day including a 16-1 tech fall win over Chris Shields of Coast Guard and a pin (6:34) of Tim Caplan of Rhode Island College. Cote, who recorded 19 team points, posted a 12-2 major decision victory over Josh Smith of Southern Maine in the third place match.

Junior Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) placed sixth out of the 157-pound weight class as he notched 10.5 team points. Kerr went 4-3 with a 16-0 tech fall win over Avery Santiago of New England College and a win by fall (6:53) over teammate Matt Jiampetti.

Freshman Nicholas Cox (Braintree, Mass.) went 2-2 out of the heavyweight class with a pair of pins. Cox, who finished with six team points, pinned Southern Maine's Thomas Foss and Michael Kimbrough of RIC.

The Bears finished 11th in the team standings with 51 points.

The BSU wrestling team is off until Wednesday, November 30th when the Bears travel to Johnson & Wales University for a Pilgrim League match with the Wildcats.
