Wrestling Splits Pair of Matches at WPI Meet

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team split a pair of matches at a meet hosted by WPI on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears (3-11) dropped a 26-13 decision to the host Engineers before rebounding with a 44-3 triumph of Daniel Webster College. 

In the Bears 26-13 setback to WPI, sophomore Paul Sughrue (Medfield, Mass.) registered three takedowns and three near falls en route to a 15-2 major decision victory at 133.  Freshman Eric Kerr (Lynnfield, Mass.) garnered a 4-1 decision at 141, while sophomore heavyweight Daniel Quinn (Quincy, Mass.) capped off the match scoring with a first period pin (2:56).

Sughrue also captured an injury default win at 133 in the Bears' 44-3 victory over Daniel Webster, while Kerr cruised to a 16-0 technical fall triumph at 141.  Kerr scored all 16 points in the opening period as the match lasted just 2:37.

Junior Casey Enderlin (Pasco, Wash.) pinned his opponent in the first period (1:36) at 184, while sophomore Shahib Blount (Haverhill, Mass.) posted a 10-6 decision at 197.  BSU's four other winning bouts were all decided by forfeit or injury default.

The Bears are off until Sunday, February 15th when they travel to Rhode Island College for a quad meet hosted by the Anchormen.
