Wrestling Competes at Messiah Petrofes Invitational

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team was in action during day one of the prestigious Messiah Petrofes Invitational on Friday.

Junior 197-pounder Adam Manzoni (Shahola, Pa.) was the only Bear who advanced to Saturday. After dropping his first bout of the day, Manzoni posted a 9-4 decision over Justin Karas of West Virginia Tech followed by a third period pin (5:46) of McDaniel's Ricky Tisinger. Manzoni will take on Anthony Puca of Gettysburg in the consolation quarterfinals.

Sophomore Kevin Pappadopoulos (Quincy, Mass.) went 2-2 on the day out of the 141-pound weight class.  Pappadopoulos recorded a 7-4 opening round win over Nathan Kirk of Mount Union as well as 10-5 victory over Springfield's Kyle Lane in the consolation bracket.

Sophomore Daniel Quinn (Quincy, Mass.) also finished 2-2 out of the heavyweight class. After an opening round setback, Quinn pinned Ben Kiser of host Messiah with just two seconds remaining in the match and recorded an 18-2 technical fall victory over David Giovannacci also of Messiah.

Senior 125-pounder Brett Reed (Mansfield, Mass.), freshman Eric Kerr (Kynnfield, Mass.) at 141, freshman Matthew Jiampetti (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) at 149, freshman Robert Gasdia (Rockland, Mass.) and junior Ryan Cassidy (Billerica, Mass.) at 174, sophomore 184-pounder Shahib Blount (Haverhill, Mass.) and junior Casey Enderlin (Pasco, Wash.) at 197 all went 1-2 in their respective weight classes.
