Wrestling Falls to Roger Williams, 37-6

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University wrestling team opened up the 2014-2015 campaign with a 37-6 setback to Roger Williams University on Friday evening at BSU's Kelly Gymnasium.

The visiting Hawks picked up pins by junior Dan Ressler (Hillsdale, N.J.) at 174, sophomore Joe Albina (Milford, N.H.) at 184 and sophomore Kyle Foster (Somers, Conn.) at heavyweight to help take a commanding 30-0 lead through six bouts.

RWU entered the match ranked first in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Preseason Coaches Poll.

Sophomore Paul Sughrue (Methuen, Mass.) recorded the Bears' first points of the evening with a 5-3 decision at 141.

An 11-2 major decision by sophomore Thomas Carta (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) at 149 and a 9-3 decision by sophomore Ty Herzog (Slatington, Pa.) at 157 increased the Hawks' advantage to 37-3.

BSU sophomore Anthony Cote (Danbury, Conn.) closed out the match with a 9-6 win at 165.

A week from Saturday, the Bears will compete at the Roger Williams Invitational.
