PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team dropped a tough 10-7 decision to Kenyon College on Friday morning at SpringFling 2017 in Port Charlotte, Florida.

The Bears fall to 2-2 with the setback, while Kenyon improves to 1-2.

BSU senior Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) opened the scoring just 52 seconds into the game with an unassisted tally.

A goal from sophomore Cassie Hudson-Heck (Medina, Ohio) tied the game at 1-1 and ignited a six-goal Kenyon run. Hudson-Heck scored again during the spurt and senior Allie McLane (South Hamilton, Mass.) registered two goals and two assists as the Ladies grabbed a five-goal lead with five minutes left in the half.

The teams traded two goals apiece over those final five minutes with Renauld and freshman Hayley White (Dracut, Mass.) scoring for the Bears. Kenyon would take an 8-3 lead into the intermission.

The Bears held the edge in play in the second half as they outshot (13-5) and outscored (4-2) the Ladies over the final 30 minutes.

Three straight goals by Renauld, senior Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) and freshman Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) pulled the Bears to within 9-7 with 4:47 left to play.

Junior Sabrina Green (Bethesda, Md.), however, answered for Kenyon with just 83 seconds remaining to give the Ladies a three-goal cushion and close out the scoring.

Junior Allie Dumas made 12 saves to record the win between the pipes for Kenyon. BSU senior netminder Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) turned aside six shots in the setback.

McLane finished with a game-high five points on three goals and two assists. Junior Kat Englert (Centennial, Colo.) and Hudson-Heck each had two goals, while sophomore Lucy Somers (Westwood, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist.

Renauld paced the Bears with three goals and an assist to go along with a game-high six ground balls, three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. Junior Rebecca McGlone (Salem. Conn.) contributed a goal and an assist with three ground balls.

Bridgewater finished with a 25-19 shot advantage for the game, while Kenyon held a slight 10-9 edge in draw controls.

The Bears are off until next Wednesday (March 15) when they travel to MIT for a six o'clock game with the Engineers.

Notes: With her three goals, Renauld moved into eighth place on the Bears' all-time goal scoring list as she increased her career total to 182. Renauld surpassed former teammate Taylor Clancy (180 goals) on the all-time list.
