Women's Lacrosse Posts 23-5 Win Over Alfred

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-5 victory over Alfred University on Wednesday morning at SpringFling 2017 in Port Charlotte, Florida.

The Bears (2-1) were never threatened in the game as they led 18-3 at the intermission.

Fourteen different players scored for Bridgewater State led by senior midfielder Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) who potted a game-best four goals to go along with an assist, one caused turnover and a game-high five draw controls.

Freshman attack Victoria McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) scored a goal and dished out a season-high seven assists, while junior attack Gabby Reinold (Braintree, mass.) checked in with four goals.

Junior midfiedler Hayley White (Wakefield, Mass.) added three goals, a ground ball and a draw, while senior midfielder Alex Lynch (Plainville, Mass.) notched three points on two goals and an assist as well as three draws.

The Bears held a 33-11 shot advantage as well as a 21-7 edge in draw controls.

BSU freshman netminder Hayley Barner (Westwood, Mass.) turned aside three shots to record her first collegiate victory.

Junior midfielder Miranda Gilbert (Watertown, N.Y.) and senior attack Megan Wendt (Grand Island, N.Y.) tallied two goals apiece to highlight the Alfred offense. Junior goaltender Shannon Gray (Rochester, N.Y.) turned aside five shots in the setback for the Saxons (0-2).

SpringFling 2017 continues for Bridgewater State as the Bears will take on Kenyon College on Friday morning at 10:00 AM.
