Marissa Yowell Named MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior attack Marissa Yowell has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week.

The MVP of the MASCAC Tournament, Yowell potted six goals to go along with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers during the Bears' tournament title run.

Yowell, who hails from Ashland, Massachusetts, tallied four goals (including the 100th of her career) and three ground balls in a 10-6 semifinal round victory over Fitchburg State. She also scored twice, including the game-winning strike in overtime, to lift the Bears to a dramatic 11-10 win over Westfield State in the conference title game.

Through 17 games this season, Yowell has recorded 44 goals and eight assists for 52 points. She also has 32 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers to her credit.

Yowell currently ranks seventh in the MASCAC in goals and 11th in scoring.

In 39 games over two season with the Bears, Yowell has produced 104 goals and 21 assist for 125 points, as well as 68 ground balls, 25 caused turnovers and 16 draw controls.

The BSU women's lacrosse team will be making its seventh straight NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and eighth overall. The Bears will take on Springfield College in opening round play on Saturday, May 14th at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
