Women's Lacrosse to Take on Springfield College in NCAA Tournament

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University will take on Springfield College in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday, May 14th at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine (Garcelon Field). Game time is slated for 1:00 PM.

The winner of Saturday's first round match between Bridgewater State and Springfield will advance to play Bates in in the second round on Sunday, May 15th (TBA).

The NCAA announced the field of 40 teams on Sunday evening. Eight first-round games will be conducted Saturday, May 14 with the winners advancing to the second round. Sixteen second-round games will be conducted on Sunday, May 15 with the winners advancing to one of four regional sites Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22.

Winners of the four regionals will advance to the semifinals and final, which take place Saturday and Sunday, May 28-29 at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia. Saint Joseph's University and Widener University will serve as hosts for the championship.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Erica Adams, the Bears are making their seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance and eighth overall. Bridgewater (12-5) earned the automatic qualifier to the national tournament by defeating Westfield State University, 11-10 in overtime, in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) title game on Saturday.

The Pride, which earned an automatic qualification into the NCAA Tournament after claiming the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Sunday afternoon with a 5-4 win over Babson, will be making its sixth trip to the national stage as a program.
