Geary Headlines Bears' Six All-MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Selections

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior midfielder Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) garnered Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Year honors to highlight Bridgewater State's six representatives on the 2016 All-MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Team.

Geary is joined on the All-MASCAC First Team by junior attack Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.). Ettridge was also voted as the MASCAC Rookie of the Year.

Senior defender Mariah McKenna (Plymouth, Mass.), senior attack Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) and junior attack Alex King (North Weymouth, Mass.) earned All-MASCAC Second Team honors to round out the Bears' six all-conference selections.

Geary is making her fourth straight appearance on the All-MASCAC First Team, while Renauld was a first team selection in 2014 and a second team honoree a year ago. Ettridge, McKenna, Yowell and King are all making their first appearance on the All-MASCAC Team. 

Through 15 games this season, Geary has produced 50 goals and 16 assists for 66 points as well as 119 draw controls, 75 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers. She currently leads the MASCAC in draws and ground balls, and ranks third in the conference in caused turnovers, fifth in goals and sixth in scoring.

Geary is also fifth in all of Division III in draw controls per game (7.93) and ninth in ground balls per game (5.00).

In 70 games over four seasons with the Bears, Geary has amassed 218 goals and 65 assists for 283 points in addition to 295 ground balls and 137 caused turnovers. She is the Bears' all-time leader in both draws and ground balls, and ranks third in goals, seventh in points and tenth in assists.

Last week, Geary eclipsed the NCAA Division III all-time record for draw controls. She surpassed Jessica Scannapieco's (Western New England University) previous all-time mark of 573 draws set in 2015.

Renauld checks in with 40 goals and 27 assists on the season for 67 points to go along with 31 ground balls, 24 draws and 16 caused turnovers. She ranks fifth in the MASCAC in both assists and scoring, and eighth in goals.

Through 57 career games, Renauld is eighth all-time in program history with 71 assists, and ninth in both goals (163) and scoring (234 pts.).

Ettridge has recorded 30 goals and ten assists for 40 points in her first season of collegiate competition. The four-time MASCAC Rookie of the Week also has 18 ground balls and 24 draws to her credit.

McKenna anchors a defensive unit that allowed nine or few goals in five of the Bears' seven conference games. She has contributed 15 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers on the season to go along with a goal and an assist.

Yowell ranks tenth in the MASCAC in goals with 38. She has also dished out eight assists for a total of 46 points, and posted 29 ground balls.

In just two seasons with the Bears, Yowell has recorded 98 goals and 21 assists for 119 points as well as 65 ground balls.

King has amassed 68 points on the season with 30 goals and a career-high 38 assists. She also has 14 ground balls and 11 draws. King ranks second in the MASCAC in assists and fourth in scoring, and she is 19th in all of Division III with 2.53 assists per game.

In 57 career games, Kings has totaled 114 goals and 79 assists for 193 points. Her 79 assists ranks seventh all-time at Bridgewater State.

The BSU women's lacrosse team is currently 10-5 (6-1 MASCAC) on the season. The Bears, who tied for the conference regular season title, are seeded second in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round contest against #3 Fitchburg State University on Thursday evening at 6:00 PM.

Notes: Ettridge is the third BSU women's lacrosse player to be named MASCAC Rookie of the Year in the last four years. Geary and Renauld also earned the honor in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
