Women's Lacrosse Downs UNE, 15-11

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) sparked the offense with four goals and three assists, and goalkeeper Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) had a strong performance with 16 saves to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 15-11 win over the University of New England in a non-conference match Friday (March 11) at the Big Blue Turf.

With the win the Bears remain unbeaten on the season at 3-0. UNE suffered its third consecutive setback to drop to 2-3.

Marissa Yowell (Ashland, Mass.) matched Renauld for game-high honors with four goals, while Alex King (North Weymouth, Mass.), Elizabeth Ettridge (Marshfield, Mass.) and Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) had two apiece. King and Amanda Liebetruth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) each added three assists.

Brooke Kelleher (Exeter, N.H.) scored three times and dished out two assists to pace the Nor'easters. Korinne Bohunsky (Eliot, Maine) and Jocelyn Davee (Freeport, Maine) had two goals apiece.

Trailing 2-0 in the early stages of the match, Bridgewater State tallied seven consecutive markers to take control. Yowell would score three of her four goals during that surge.

The Bears, who led 9-5 at the half, scored five of the initial six goals after intermission to build a 14-6 cushion. UNE chipped away in the final 10 minutes, but was unable to get closer than four.

Ettridge had six draw controls for Bridgewater State, while Bohunsky registered a match-best seven for UNE. Bohunsky played a fine all-around match, adding four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Davee led all players with eight ground balls and Jolena Lampron (Lyman, Maine) contributed six for the Nor'easters, who led 33-16 in that category.

Forman figured prominently into the Bears' victory, totaling 12 stops after halftime to thwart any chance of a UNE comeback.

UNE starting goalkeeper Courtney Kendall (Waltham, Mass.) had two saves over the opening 15:38 before giving way to Lauryn Huck (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), who had nine saves the rest of the way.

The Nor'easters take to the field again March 16 at Castleton University (4 p.m.), and Bridgewater State returns to action next Friday (March 18) at Salve Regina University.
