Women's Lacrosse Posts 19-10 Win Over UMass Dartmouth

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater Stat University women's lacrosse team posted a 19-10 victory over visiting UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 2-0 on the young season, while the Corsairs slip to 1-1.

BSU senior midfielder Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) tallied five goals and an assist and filled the stat sheet with game-high totals of nine ground balls, seven draw controls and five caused turnovers.

Junior attack Alex King (North Weymouth, Mass.) led all players with six goals and seven points, while junior midfielder Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) added four goals and an assist to go along with three ground balls, four draws and a pair of caused turnovers.

Senior attack Colleen Kane (Arlington, Mass.) paced the visiting Corsairs with four goals, an assist, three ground ball and three draws. Junior attack Catrina Longo (Billerica, Mass.) scored two goals and dished out three assists.

Trailing 3-2 midway through the first half, the Bears reeled off five straight goals over a 12-minute stretch to take a 7-3 lead. Geary and King scored twice during the run while Renauld got the other one.

The Corsairs potted the final three goals of the period with Kane notching back-to-back strikes in the final 16 seconds to close the gap to 7-6 heading into the break.

The teams traded three goals apiece over the first 15 minutes of the second half as the Bears maintained the one-goal advantage (10-9).

Bridgewater dominated play the rest of the way outscoring the Corsairs by a margin of 9-1 over the final 14 minutes to come away with the 19-10 victory. Geary, King and Renauld combined for seven of the Bears' final nine goals.

Junior goaltender Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) made eight saves to post her second win of the season and 21st of her career. Forman tied Lauren Mazzola (2003-2005) for fourth place on the Bears' all-time wins list.

Bridgewater held a 37-19 shot advantage for the game including a 21-8 edge in the second half. The Bears also converted 7 of 11 free position attempts, while the Corsairs went just 1-for-5 from the free position.

Freshman netminder Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) made ten saves in the setback for UMass.

The Bears are back in action on Friday afternoon when they travel to the University of New England for a four o'clock game with the Nor'easters. The Corsairs head to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon for a four o'clock game with the Monks.

Notes: With her seven draws, Geary increased her career total to 480 as she moved past Eleanora Keene (Guilford) into third place on the Division III all-time list. Jessica Scannapieco of Western New England University holds the all-time Division III record with 573 career draws….Geary also moved into eighth place on the Bears' all-time scoring list as she now has 224 points (173G, 51A) in her career.
