Women's Lacrosse to Take on Saint Joseph's College in NCAA Tournament

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University will take on Saint Joseph's College of Maine in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday, May 9th at 1:00 PM at Bowdoin College.

The winner of Saturday's first round match between Bridgewater State and Saint Joseph's will advance to play Bowdoin in the second round on Sunday, May 10th also at 1:00 PM.

The NCAA announced the field of 38 teams on Sunday evening. Six first-round games will be conducted on Saturday, May 9th with the winners advancing to the second round. Sixteen second-round games will be conducted on Sunday, May 10th with the winners advancing to one of four regional sites on May 16-17.

Winners of the four regionals will advance to the semifinals and final, which take place May 23-24 at PPL Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Saint Joseph's University and Widener University will serve as hosts for the championship.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Gina Riitano, the Bears are making their sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh overall. Bridgewater (12-8) earned the automatic qualifier to the national tournament by defeating Westfield State University, 13-12 in overtime, in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) title game on Saturday.

Saint Joseph's, who also earned an automatic bid to the national tournament, is currently 17-1 on the season. Under the direction of third-year head coach Ruper Lewis, the Monks are making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.  Saint Joseph's captured its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament Championship with a 10-3 victory over Regis College on April 26th to garner the automatic qualifier.
