Lauren Geary Named MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third straight week, Bridgewater State University junior midfielder Lauren Geary has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Geary tallied six goals and an assist for seven points in two games for the Bears at the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Hull, Massachusetts product added five ground balls, seven controlled draw and five caused turnovers.

Geary notched three goals, two ground balls, six draws and three caused turnovers in the Bears’ 16-9 first round victory over Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. She also registered three goals, an assists, three ground balls, one draw and two caused turnovers in a 22-9 second round setback to fourth ranked Bowdoin College.

The win over Saint Joseph's marked the first NCAA Tournament victory for the BSU women's lacrosse program.

In 22 games this season, Geary totaled 78 goals and 13 assists for 91 points as well as 84 ground balls, 164 draws and 41 caused turnovers. Her 78 goals and 164 draws are the second highest single-season totals in program history.

Geary led the MASCAC in goals, draw controls and caused turnovers and ranked second in both scoring and ground balls. She is also fifth in all of Division III in goals, and seventh in draw controls per game (7.45).

In 59 games over her first three seasons at Bridgewater State, Geary has amassed 168 goals and 49 assists for 217 points as well as 220 ground balls, 462 draws and 101 caused turnovers. She holds the BSU career mark for draws and ranks second all-time in ground balls, eighth in goals and ninth in scoring.

As a freshman in 2013, Geary set the NCAA Division III record for draw controls in a season with 188 (since broken). Her 462 career draws rank in the top five among the all-time Division III leaders.

The BSU women's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2015 season with an overall record of 13-9. The Bears captured their eighth straight conference tournament championship (three MASCAC, five NEWLA) and made their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
