Lauren Geary Named MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University junior midfielder Lauren Geary has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week.

Geary earned MASCAC Tournament MVP honors after leading the Bears to the MASCAC Championship. The Hull, Massachusetts product finished with 15 points on 13 goals and two assists to go along with 13 ground balls, 32 controlled draws and six caused turnovers in Bridgewater's three tournament wins.

Geary scored six goals to go along seven ground balls, 14 draws and three caused turnovers in the Bears' 22-8 quarterfinal round victory over Salem State. She added three goals, an assist, five ground balls, nine draws and two caused turnovers in a 19-11 semifinal win over Fitchburg State, and capped off the tournament with four goals, one assist and nine draws in the Bears' 13-12 championship game win in overtime over Westfield State.

Through 20 games this season, Geary has 72 goals and 12 assists for 84 points as well as 79 round balls, 157 draws and 36 caused turnover. Her 72 goals are the third highest single-season total in program history while her 157 draws rank second.

Geary leads the MASCAC in goals, draw controls and caused turnovers and ranks second in both scoring and ground balls. She is also tied for fourth in all of Division III in draw controls per game (7.85) and tied for ninth in goals.

In 57 games over her first three seasons at Bridgewater State, Geary has amassed 162 goals and 48 assists for 210 points as well as 215 ground balls, 455 draws and 96 caused turnovers. She holds the BSU career mark for draws and ranks second all-time in ground balls, eighth in goals and ninth in scoring.

As a freshman in 2013, Geary set the NCAA Division III record for draw controls in a season with 188 (since broken). Her 455 career draws rank in the top ten among the all-time Division III leaders and potentially in the top five.

By virtue of the MASCAC Tournament title, the BSU women's lacrosse team earned the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The Bears, who will be making the program's sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh overall, will travel to Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon to take on Saint Joseph's College of Maine in first round action. Game time is slated for 1:00 PM.
