Four Bears Selected to All-MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Four Bridgewater State University student-athletes were named on Wednesday morning to the 2015 All-MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Team in a vote of the league's eight head coaches.

Junior midfielder and freshman Lauren Geary defender Haley Riley garnered first team honors, while senior attack Riley Cachelin and sophomore attack Melissa Renauld were named to the second team.

Geary and Cachelin are both making their third straight appearance on the All-MASCAC Team while Renauld is making her second. Cachelin was also a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) First Team selection as a rookie in 2012.

Through 18 games this season, Geary has recorded 65 goals and ten assist for 75 points to go along with 73 ground balls, 139 draw controls and 33 caused turnovers.  The Hull, Massachusetts product currently leads the MASCAC in goals, draws and caused turnovers and is second in the conference in both scoring and ground balls. She also ranks in the top sixth in all of Division III in draws per game (7.72) and is tied for 19th nationally in goals..

Riley has started 17 games on defense for the Bears in her rookie season. The Wakefield, Massachusetts resident has 31 ground balls, eight draws and 17 caused turnovers to her credit and has also scored a pair of goals. She is tied for 12th among the MASCAC leaders in caused turnovers.

A native of Westwood, Massachusetts, Cachelin has produced 23 goals and a school-record 58 assists for a total of 81 points. She currently leads the conference in both scoring and assists.

Renauld, who hails from Framingham, Massachusetts, has totaled 45 goals and 20 assists for 65 points as well as 19 ground balls and 44 draws. She is sixth in the MASCAC in goals and points, and eighth in both assists and draws. Cachelin ranks second in all of Division III in total assists and fifth in assists per game (3.22).

The BSU women's lacrosse team is currently 10-8 on the season including a 5-2 mark in conference play. Seeded third in the MASCAC Tournament, the Bears advanced to the semifinals with a 22-8 win over #6 Salem State University in quarterfinal round action on Tuesday night. Bridgewater will travel to Fitchburg State University on Thursday evening for a seven o'clock semifinal round matchup with the second-seeded Falcons.

Notes: Geary is the Bears' all-time leaders in draw controls with 437. She is also eighth all-time in goals (155) and tenth in scoring (201 pts.)….Cachelin ranks thirds among the Bears' career leaders in assists (140), sixth in points (277) and tenth in goals (137).
