BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team scored eight times in the final 7:35 of the opening half to pull away from Bridgewater State University in a 22-9 win in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Ryan Field.

The fourth-ranked Polar Bears improve to 16-3 on the season while the Bears finish their year with a record of 13-9. Bowdoin advances to the third round next Saturday against The College of New Jersey at a site to-be-determined. More information will be announced early this week. Bowdoin has never failed to reach the NCAA Quarterfinals in any of its previous five Tournament appearances.

Emma Beecher led the way for Bowdoin with four goals, two assists and ten draw controls in the win. Lindsay Picard led all players with five goals while Megan O'Connor had three. Eleven different Polar Bears scored en route to a season-high goal total for the hosts.

Bridgewater was led by three goals from Lauren Geary, who also added an assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Marissa Yowell had two goals in the loss for the Bears.

Bowdoin appeared to have the game in hand as they sprinted to a 7-2 lead just 15 minutes into the contest. But Bridgewater rallied, realing off three straight goals, and closed to within 7-5 after a Geary score with 8:35 remaining in the period, forcing a Bowdoin timeout.

The Polar Bears came out firing after the stoppage in play, scoring twice in a 32-second span from Clare McLaughlin and Dana White. Bowdoin then dropped the hammer with five goals in the final 3:34 of the stanza, including three from Picard, to make it 15-5 at the break.

The contest was in running time for the entire second half as the Polar Bears scored the first six goals of the frame to extend their lead to 21-5. Bridgewater scored four of the game's final five goals.

Bowdoin held a 37-18 edge in shots and controlled the pace of play thanks to a commanding 26-7 lead in draw controls. Allie Forman made eight saves in the first 47:58 of play for Bridgewater State before being relieved by Chandler Ross, who made one stop in the final 12:02.

Isabel Sippel did not make a save in the first half for Bowdoin while Kayli Weiss made one stop in the second period for Bowdoin.

Notes: Geary ended the season with 78 goals, one shy of Jenny Jones' single-season program record of 79 set in 2010....Forman finished one save shy of Meghan Griffin's BSU single-season mark of 194 saves set in 2010.
