Geary, Yowell, King Lead Women's Lacrosse to 16-14 Win over Keene State

KEENE, N.H. -- Lauren Geary, Marissa Yowell and Alex King combined for 12 goals and three assists to lead the visiting Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 16-14 victory over non-conference foe Keene State College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears even their 2015 record at 4-4 with the win, while the host Owls drop to 1-9.

Geary had an impressive all-around game as she tallied four goals and an assist to go along with five ground balls, eight draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers.

King finished with six points on four goals and two assists, while Yowell notched four goals as well as three ground balls.

KSC struck first, just 56 seconds into the game on a goal by Jenna Bellano, but that was quickly answered by six consecutive strikes from the Bears. Yowell started the run followed by three-straight from Geary. King added back-to-back goals for a 6-1 lead at the 15:09 mark.

Pressure by Bellano caused the BSU goalkeeper to turn over a clear attempt as the ball trickled in the back of the net for a 6-2 score.

Brooke Buckner and Yowell scored the next two for BSU, which was answered by Polly Grey's back-to-back scores and a Liz Robinson tally to see the Owls pull within 8-5 with 6:02 on the clock.

The Bears scored three of the next four goals to take an 11-6 lead going into halftime. Yowell found the back of the net twice during the stretch while Katharine Trahan also scored.

Keene State came out of the half with a renewed sense of energy, scoring five-straight to tie the game 11-11, thanks to two goals apiece by Kaitlin Nolan and Robinson.

Geary jump-started a three-goal spurt for the visitors with Trahan and Riley Cachelin also scoring as the Bears jumped ahead 14-11 lead. The Owls, however, would not go away as it was Nolan and Robinson again bringing the home team to within one at 14-13 with 5:27 remaining.

King scored a pair of goals just 41 seconds apart to give BSU a three-goal cushion. Bellano answered with 2:17 remaining in the game, but the comeback would end with a 16-14 final decision.

The Owls held a slim 31-29 advantage in shots, while the Bears picked up 30 ground balls compared to 29 for KSC.

Allie Forman registered nine saves between the pipes for the visitors to record her third win of the season. Alison Argiro made eight stops for KSC.

Bellano paced the Owls with three goals and a pair of assists to go along with three draws, while Nolan and Robinson tallied four goals apiece. Nolan and Robinson also added four draws and three draws, respectively.

Laura Gendreau had a solid defensive game for Keene State as she registered five ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

The Owls return to conference play Saturday when they travel to Eastern Connecticut for an 11:00 a.m. tilt. The Bears entertain non-conference rival Western New England University on Thursday night at seven.
