Melissa Renauld Named MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week and third time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman attack Melissa Renauld has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week.

A native of Framingham, Massachusetts, Renauld tallied eight goals and five assists during the Bears' two-game MASCAC Tournament championship run.  She also added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Renauld notched three goals and two assists to go along with a pair of caused turnovers in an 18-3 semifinal victory over Fitchburg State.  She then scored five goals, dished out three assists and recorded two ground balls in the Bears' 19-7 championship game win over Worcester State.

In 19 games this season, Renauld has recorded 64 goals and 21 assists for 85 points in addition to 36 ground balls, 18 draws and 13 caused turnovers.  She ranks second in the MASCAC in scoring, third in goals and sixth in assists.

By virtue of the MASCAC Tournament title, the BSU women's lacrosse team earned the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The Bears, who will be making the program's fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth overall, will travel to Amherst College on Saturday afternoon to take on the Jeffs in second round action. Game time is 1:00 PM.

Notes: Renauld is three goals shy of Jenny Jones' BSU single-season rookie mark of 67 goals set in 2008.
