Women's Lacrosse to Take on Amherst in NCAA Tournament

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University will travel to Amherst, Massachusetts to take on Amherst College in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday, May 10th at 1:00 PM.

The winner of Saturday's second round match between Bridgewater State and Amherst will advance to play the winner of York and St. John Fisher at a to-be-determined location on Saturday, May 17th.

The NCAA announced the field of 36 teams on Sunday evening.  Four first-round games will be conducted on Wednesday, May 7 with the winners advancing to the second round. Sixteen second-round games will be conducted on Saturday, May 10 with the winners advancing to one of four regional sites May 17-18. Winners of the four regionals will advance to the semifinals and final, which take place May 24 and 25 at Clark Field in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Gettysburg will serve as host for the championship.

Under the guidance of first-year head coach Holly Drown, the Bears are making their fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth overall. Bridgewater (14-5) earned the automatic qualifier to the national tournament by defeating Worcester State University, 19-7, in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) title game on Saturday.

Amherst, who earned an at-large bid to the national tournament, is currently 16-2 on the season. Under the direction of 20-year head coach Christine Paradis (246-84, .745), the Jeffs are making their 11th overall appearance in the NCAA tournament and first since 2012.  Amherst is ranked fifth in the latest IWLCA Division III poll.    The Jeffs are one of five New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) teams to qualify for this year's championship.
