SALEM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team captured its second straight MASCAC regular season title outright with a 17-6 victory over host Salem State University on Saturday afternoon. 

The visiting Bears improve to 12-5 on the seasib with their fourth straight win and finish unbeaten in MASCAC play with a perfect 6-0 mark.  The Vikings slip to 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

Bridgewater is the top seed in next week's MASCAC Tournament and will have first round bye. Salem is seeded fifth and will travel to fourth-seeded Fitchburg State University on Tuesday evening to take on the Falcons at seven.

Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) paced the Bears with five goals and two assists to go along with three ground balls.  Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) also filled the stat sheet with three goals, two assists, five ground balls and a career-high 11 controlled draws.

After falling behind 1-0 early, the Bears reeled off ten straight goals in a span of ten minutes and 35 seconds to take control of the game.  Clancy netted three goals during the run while Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, MA) scored twice and Renauld, Alex Lynch (Plainville, MA), Riley Cachelin (Westwood, MA) and Lauren Geary (Hull, MA) each scored once.

Bridgewater led 13-3 at the break and got up by as many as 13 goals twice in the second half before settling for the 17-6 win.

The Bears held a 28-11 shot advantage for the game as well as a decisive 16-4 edge in controlled draws.  Geary, who finished with a pair of goals, also notched five draws.

Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) and Chandler Ross (Wrentham, Mass.) combined to make two saves between the pipes for the Bears with Forman recording her eighth win of the season. Chyenne Jackson (Peabody, Mass.) turned asided eight shot in goal for the Vikings.

Notes: The Bears have actually won seven straight conference regular season championships since 2008 including five consecutive New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) crowns (2008-2012).
