Women's Lacrosse Cruises to 18-1 MASCAC Win over Framingham State

Framingham, Mass. –- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team opened up a 10-0 half time lead en route to an 18-1 road victory over the Framingham State University Rams in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game at Maple Street Field this afternoon.

With the win the Bears improve to 9-5 on the year and remain unbeaten in the MASCAC at 3-0.  The Rams fall to 2-12 overall and 1-4 in the conference with the loss.

Bridgewater State took the lead for good just 16 seconds into the contest when Riley Cachelin (Westwood, Mass.) found the back of the net off a feed from sophomore Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.).  The Bears would shutout the Rams in the first half as they outshot the hosts 22-1 in the opening period and took a 10-0 lead at the break.  Freshman Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) finished the first half with four goals and an assist for the Bears, while Cachelin and Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) chipped in with two apiece.

The Bears scored the first six goals in the second half to extend their lead before Framingham State junior Nicole L'Heureux (Dracut, Mass.) got the Rams on the board with an unassisted goal, her team leading 13th, with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game.

Renauld finished the game with six points for the Bears on five goals and an assist, while Cachelin finished with five on three goals and two assists.  Senior Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) potted two goals and two helpers on the day for four points, while Appleman chipped in three goals and Geary two and an assist.

The Bears outshot the Rams 37-5 in the game with Chandler Ross (Wrentham, Mass.) and Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) combining for the victory in net.  Ross made one save in the first half, while Forman made a save and surrendered a goal in her 30 minutes of action.  Sophomore Alysha Cericola (Waltham, Mass.) made 13 saves for the Rams including nine in the first half.

Briidgewater also held a 14-6 edge in controlled draws with Geary leading the way with a match-high seven.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Westfield State at 7 p.m., while the Bears host Mass. Maritime on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
