BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team held host Bridgewater State University scoreless in the second half as the Lyons posted a 7-6 victory over the Bears on Tuesday night at chilly Swenson Field.

Sophomore midfielders Brooke Sabol (Landgrove, Vt.) and Jenna Tewksbury (Concord, N.H.) notched two goals apiece for the visiting Lyons with Sabol potting the game-winning goal on a free position attempt with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.

Wheaton junior goaltender Katy Ananian (Belmont, Mass.) was the difference-maker for the Lyons as she made 11 saves between the pipes including a game-saving stop on a point-blank range shot with under a minute left to play.

The Bears led 6-3 at the intermission as senior midfielder Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman attack Melissa Renauld (Framingham, Mass.) tallied two goals apiece. Senior attack Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Alex King (Weymouth, Mass.) also scored first half goals for the Bears with King's marker giving the hosts a 6-2 advantage late in the stanza.

Wheaton freshman attack Hannah Gasperoni (Hampton, N.H.) scored with just 17 seconds left in the first half to cut the deficit to 6-3 and jump-start the Lyons comeback bid.

The visitors carried the momentum into the second stanza as Tewksbury netted her first goal of the day, an unassisted tally just over three minutes into the period. Tewksbury would make it a 6-5 game at the 12:03 mark, before senior attack Leila Mills (Brunswick, Maine) potted the game-tying goal with 7:20 remaining.

Freshman netminder Allie Forman (Marblehead, Mass.) played very well in goal for the Bears as she made eight saves on the night.  Forman gave her team a chance to win the game, but was hurt by lack of offensive support.

Shots were even at 19 apiece. The Lyons, however, converted 3 of 4 free position attempts, while the Bears went 1-for-2. Wheaton held a 9-6 edge in draw control and committed just 12 fouls compared to 18 for Bridgewater.

BSU sophomore midfielder Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) led all player with five draws controls as she now has 200 for her career. Geary also added game-high totals of four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Mills and Sabol notched three draws apiece for Wheaton.

Both teams are back in action on Thursday. The Bears travel to Salve Regina University to take on the Seahawks at 4:30, while the Lyons entertain the Jumbos of Tufts University at seven.
