SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-5 decision to host Western New England University on Thursday afternoon.

Bridgewater State falls to 1-1 while the Golden Bears stay perfect on the season at 3-0.

Senior Shelby Trebbe, junior Jessica Scannapieco and sophomore Taylor Scialdone each recorded a hat trick, and the nation's top-ranked offense also had its best defensive effort so far in 2014.

Senior Taylor Clancy paced the Bridgewater State effort with three goals, five ground balls and four draw controls.  Clancy became the first player in BSU women's lacrosse history to record 200 ground balls (204).  She also moved into third place on the Bears' all-time draw control list as she now has 161 in her career.

Senior Braylan Wenzel and sophomore Mariah McKenna added a goal apiece for the Bears, while junior Riley Cachelin was credited with an assist.

Western New England built a 6-0 lead after the opening 11 minutes and eight seconds, and never looked back. Scannapieco scored twice and senior tri-captain Kelsey Sherman added a man-up goal to key the scoring run.

Besides the scoreboard, WNE also dominated in other phases of the game including ground balls (34-21), draw controls (13-9), shots (29-16), shots on goal (23-12) and caused turnovers (8-4).

Junior goalie Emily Castleman made seven saves for WNE and lowered her goals-against average to 6.43, as the Golden Bears held Bridgewater State to an opponent-low five goals. Sophomore Chandler Ross made eight stops for the Bears at the other end of the field.

Western New England closes a three-game homestand at 1 p.m. Saturday against Smith College in another non-conference tilt.  The Bears are off until next Wednesday afternoon when they entertain non-league foe Lasell College at four
