Geary Leads Women's Lacrosse to 24-7 MASCAC Win over Worcester State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Freshman midfielder Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) recorded a school-record 20 draw controls while adding two goals and two assists to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 24-7 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory over Worcester State University on Saturday night at Swenson Field.

Bridgewater remains undefeated on the season with the win as the Bears improve to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the MASCAC. Worcester falls to 6-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

Geary, who also added six ground balls and two caused turnovers, eclipsed Corinne Baker's previous BSU single-game mark of 15 draws set in 2004 against Elms College. With the 20 draws, Geary increased her season total to 87 as she also broke Lauryn Serrarore's 2008 season mark of 86 draws.

BSU junior midfielder Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) and senior attack Jill Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) each tallied six goals and an assist to lead the explosive Bears' offense. Clancy added six ground balls, four draws and a pair of caused turnovers.

Junior attack Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) chipped in with three goals and an assist for the hosts, while sophomore attack Riley Cachelin (Westwood, Mass.) also finished with three goals and a helper.

Freshman goaltender Chandler Ross (Wrentham, Mass.) turned aside ten shots to post her fifth straight win in as many chances between the pipes for the Bears.

Bridgewater led 9-5 as the first half clock ticked under ten minutes. The Bears then rolled off six unanswered goals to end the half and put the game out of reach. BSU would score the first five goals of the second half to complete the 11-0 run. Caramello and Clancy combined for nine goals during the run.

The Bears outshot the visiting Lancers by a margin of 41-18 and held a 26-7 edge in draws as well as a 31-24 advantage in ground balls.

Eight different players scored for Bridgewater State as senior midfielder Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, Mass.), freshman attack Alexis Hadcock (East Lyme, Conn.) and sophomore attack Amanda Liebetruth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) also found the back of the net for the Bears. Farland scored two goals, Hadcock notched a goal and an assist, and Liebetruth added a marker.

Sophomore attack Molly Kilday (Westford, Mass.) paced Worcester State with three goals, while freshman attack Kalia Chase (Northbridge, Mass.) added a pair of goals and sophomore midfielder Jaclyn Lawlor (Westford, Mass.) dished out two assists.

Senior Alex Chisholm (North Brookfield, Mass.) made nine saves in goal for the Lancers.
