Women's Lacrosse Posts 20-5 Victory over Mount Saint Vincent

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team cruised to a 20-5 non-conference win over the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday evening at Swenson Field.

The Bears remain unbeaten on the season with their fifth straight win, while the visiting Dolphins slip to 3-6 overall.

Sophomore attack Riley Cachelin (Westwood, Mass.) paced the hosts with four goals, two assists and three ground balls. Senior midfielder Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, Mass.) also finished with six points as she notched a pair of goals and four assists to go along with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Bridgewater closed out the first half with a 10-0 run as the Bears took a 14-2 lead into the intermission. Junior midfielder Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman attack Alexis Hadcock (East Lyme, Conn.) tallied three goals apiece during the run.

Clancy finished with four goals, an assist and five controlled draws on the evening, while Hadcock also recorded four goals and a helper.

Three straight goals by Cachelin, Farland and Hadcock to open the second half would stake BSU to a commanding 17-2 advantage as the Bears coasted to the victory.

Bridgewater held a 37-14 shot advantage for the game as well as an 18-9 edge in draws controls. Freshman midfielder Lauren Geary (Hull, Mass.) led all players with a season-high 11 draws while also adding two assists and seven ground balls. Geary came into the week ranked fifth in all of Division III in draws per game.

Senior attack Jill Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) added four goals and an assist for the Bears, while junior attack Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist. Sophomore attack Amanda Liebetruth (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) potted her first goal of the season.

BSU freshman netminder Chandler Ross (Wrentham, Mass.) made four saves in her collegiate debut.

Junior midfielder Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) paced the Dolphins with two goals, two assists, three ground balls and three draws. Freshman attack Katie Coyle (Yorktown Height, N.Y.) chipped in with a pair of goals, while sophomore goaltender Katie McCormick (Mahopac, N.Y.) turned aside nine shots between the pipes.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Fitchburg State University on Saturday to take on the Falcons at 11:00 AM. The game marks the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opener for both teams. The Dolphins host Skyline Conference foe Montclair State University on Saturday afternoon at 4:30.
