Women's Lacrosse Upends Plymouth State, 13-3

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Kristin White (Pelham, Mass.) scored four goals Thursday afternoon to lead Bridgewater State University to a 13-3 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Plymouth State University, spoiling the Panthers' home opener at Arold Field.

The Bears (11-1 overall) got back on the winning track after suffering their first defeat of the season in their last outing to 13th-ranked Tufts University.  PSU had its four-game winning streak stopped and dipped to 6-3.

After freshman Emily Buckle (Danbury, Conn.) notched the first goal of the game for Plymouth State five minutes in, the visiting Bears scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead with 10 minutes to play in the first half.  That ended up as all of the first half scoring, and team shots were tied at 11-11.

White scored the first two goals of the second half for BSU in the first four minutes to extend the margin to 6-1.  It was 8-1 before PSU got back in the scoring column with a goal by sophomore Amanda Richardson (Bradford, N.H.) with 17:41 on the clock.  The Bears put the game away with the next five goals before PSU tallied the final goal in the last minute of play.

Bridgewater State out-shot the home team 22-6 in the second half and 33-17 for the game.  The Bears also won the battle of ground balls (17-9) while draw controls were tied at nine apiece.

In addition to White, BSU got two goals apiece from senior Jenny Jones (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomores Jill Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) and Sammi Salverio (Hanson, Mass.).  Freshman Taylor Clancy (Braintree, Mass.) scored once while collecting team-highs of four ground balls and three draw controls.

Senior goalie Katie Weber (Arlington, Mass.) recorded the victory in the Bridgewater State goal, making eight saves.     PSU freshman Lorin Field (Hollis, N.H.) made 11 saves before being replaced with five minutes remaining.

PSU returns to Little East Conference action Saturday with a key home game against Eastern Connecticut State University (3:00 p.m.)  BSU plays a New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) contest Saturday at Becker College at 12 noon.
