Women's Lacrosse Wins 9th Straight, Bears Down Westfield 18-9

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Jill Caramello (Duxbury) and Jenny Jones (Framingham) had game highs of five goals and six points (4 goals, 2 assists), respectively, to lead undefeated Bridgewater State University to an 18-9 victory over Westfield State University in women's lacrosse action Thursday evening, April 7.

Bridgewater boosted its unbeaten mark to 9-0 and is 2-0 in league play, the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance. Westfield is 4-2 and 1-1.

The Bears bolted to a 5-0 lead in the game's opening five minutes, with Caramello scoring three goals, forcing the Owls to call a timeout.

Bridgewater expanded its lead to 10-2, capped by another Caramello tally with 12:56 remaining in the first half.

Westfield finally got untracked and scored five straight goals, including two each from Ari Colella (Franklin) and Maura Stack (Wilbraham), to trail, 10-7, twenty seconds into the second half.

The Bears - who played a pressing defense and ball possession offense for much of the second half - led 12-8 with 22:04 remaining when they reeled off three straight goals by Patricia Maloney (Walpole), Courtney Lennon (Medfield) and Kristin White (Pelham) for a 15-8 lead with 14:23 remaining.

The game was scoreless for nearly 10 minutes until Stack scored with 2:56 remaining to make it 15-9. Bridgewater tacked on three goals in the final 1:35 with Jones, Caramello and Taylor Clancy (Braintree) finding the back of the net.

Other top point producers for the Bears were White with two goals and two assists and Lennon with three goals and an assist. Goalie Katie Weber (Arlington) made 10 saves, including seven in the first half.

Stack led Owls with three goals and Colella had three goals and an assist. Westfield goalie Jill Robinson (Salem) recorded 11 saves.
