Women's Lacrosse Improves to 6-0 with 15-7 Win over RWU

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior attack Kristin White (Pelham, Mass.) notched five goals and an assist, and senior midfielder Courtney Lennon (Medfield, Mass.) tallied three goals and three assists, to lead the unbeaten Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 15-7 victory over visiting Roger Williams University on Tuesday night in Bridgewater.

The host Bears improve to 6-0 on the season as they are off to the best start in program history.  Roger Williams dips to 4-4 with the loss.

Bridgewater struggled out of the gate scoring just one goal over the first 17 minutes of the contest.  Trailing 2-1, the Bears would outscore the Hawks 5-1 over the last 13 minutes of the opening stanza and continued to dominate play throughout the remainder of the game.  Senior attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, Mass.) scored twice during first half-ending run, while Lennon, White and senior midfielder Patricia Maloney (Walpole, Mass.) also scored.

Back-to-back goals from Lennon to open the second half followed by single tallies from Jones and White gave BSU a comfortable 10-3 advantage.  The Bears would get up by as much as ten goals (15-5) before two late strikes from Roger Williams accounted for the final score.

Jones chipped in with four goals and an assist, while freshman attack Nicki Giordano (Huntington Station, N.Y.) added two goals and an assists.  Senior netminder Katie Weber (Arlington, Mass.) turned aside eight shots, including five saves in the first half.  Senior defender Erin Quimby (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the Bears' defensive effort with two caused turnovers and two draw controls. 

Bridgewater held a 25-20 edge in shots for the game.  The Bears also converted on 4 of 5 free position attempts, while Roger Williams went just 1-for-4.

Senior attack Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y) paced the Hawks with two goals and a pair of helpers.  Senior midfielder Claire Halliday (Trenton, N.J.) chipped in with two goals and an assist, while senior defender Nicole Papasergiou (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) added a pair of goals.  RWU sophomore goaltender Justine Sullivan (Norwell, Mass.) made six saves between the pipes.

The Bears will look to run their winning streak to seven games on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Wheaton College for a four o'clock game with the Lyons.  Roger Williams hosts Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Anna Maria College on Wednesday also at 4.
