CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior attack Jenny Jones (Framingham, Mass.) became the all-time leading goal scorer in Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse history as the Bears edged the Engineers of MIT, 9-8, on Saturday afternoon in Cambridge.

Jones and classmate Courtney Lennon (Medfield, Mass.) both posted three goals and an assist for the Bears (3-0) while Stephanie Leger led the Engineers (2-1) with a hat-trick.

A free-position shot by Jones put Bridgewater State on the board less than a minute into the game. The marker also helped her surpass Shannon Manning (228 goals) as the program's leading goal producer. Lennon quickly increased the Bears' margin with a free-position goal but Leger cut MIT's deficit in half with a free-position strike of her own.

Both sides went on to exchange goals until back-to-back tallies by the Engineers evened the score at four. Each squad found the back of the net twice during the final six minutes of the half to preserve the deadlock at the intermission. Jones registered a pair of goals that were set up by sophomore attack Jill Caramello (Duxbury, Mass.) and Lennon while Erica Little and Molly McShane converted their free-position attempts, the latter with seven seconds on the clock.

Lennon's solo effort after 1:29 elapsed in the second stanza put Bridgewater State in front, however, 10 minutes later Katie Kauffman's blast tied the game at seven. A free-position shot from senior midfielder Patricia Maloney (Walpole, Mass.) and then an unassisted goal by Lennon at the 9:37 mark matched the Bears' largest lead since the opening moments of the contest. The visitors maintained possession down the stretch, but Leger's free-position shot brought the Cardinal and Gray within one (9-8). MIT won the ensuing draw control, but was unable to send the game into overtime.

In addition to her team-high scoring performance, Leger added three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Little and McShane both finished with a goal and an assist while Meghan Wright tallied five groundballs, two caused turnovers, and a goal. Alex Wright added a goal as Lauren Rodda recorded three caused turnovers. In net, Allison Hamilos collected 11 saves for the Engineers.

Jones led the Bears with five draw controls and three groundballs as junior attack Kristin White (Pelham, Mass.) chipped in two groundballs and a goal. Sophomore midfielder Sammi Salverio (Hanson, Mass.) bolstered the offense with a goal while senior netminder Katie Weber (Arlington, Mass.) made seven saves between the pipes.

Both squads return to action on Tuesday, March 15. MIT will travel to Williams College while Bridgewater State will host Salve Regina University.
